Frequent smartphone use can also lead to injuries to the thumb, hand, wrist and forearm.<\/p>\n<p>These kinds of complaints can have enormous impact on your daily life and the possibility to do your job. Hand physiotherapy can be the solution for your problem.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Anatomy<\/h2>\n<p>The elbow is the joint between your upper arm (humerus), ulna (ulna) and radius bone (radius). The main movement in your elbow is flexion and extension. Your radius and ulna rotate around each other and allow you to rotate your forearm. They call this supination and pronation.<\/p>\n<p>The wrist is the joint between your forearm and hand. Your wrist can bend, extend, and move sideways (ulnar and radial deviation).<\/p>\n<p>Your hand consists of 27 bones; 8 carpal bones, 5 metacarpals and 14 phalanges. There are joints between these bones, which makes the hand very mobile.<\/p>\n<p>There are a lot of muscles in the elbow, forearm and hand, about 30. Nowadays these complaints are called KANS, complaints of the arm, \u00a0neck and shoulder. Most of these complaints are caused by repetitive movements of the elbow and hand with too little rest and relaxation. The muscles that extend and flex your fingers start in your elbow and forearm. Often these muscles don&#8217;t get enough time and rest to recover from the continuous repetitive movements during the day. This will overload them and make them hurt.<\/p>\n<p>Important in this is the &#8220;too little rest&#8221; part. Even small 10 second breaks in which you shake your hands and wrists can be enough to prevent complaints.<\/p>\n<p>Especially with chronic issues on the forearm and elbow, there is an underlying nerve compression. This nerve compression can be in the elbow, but also in the neck, shoulder or wrist. Because we use our hands all day long, complaints are common. Wrist and hand complaints can have a major impact on your daily life.<\/p>\n<p>A distinction can be made between acute and chronic hand and wrist complaints.<\/p>\n<p>Acute complaints suddenly arise after a fall or during sports. Even if you do too many exercises like push ups, your wrist can start to hurt. These complaints often go away with dosed movement and time.<\/p>\n<p>Long-term and chronic hand and wrist complaints often start without an obvious cause and gradually get worse over time. These complaints are often caused by too much repetitive movement during work with too little rest and a (too) high workload.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of common (chronic) hand and wrist complaints are sleeping hands, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendon sheath inflammation in the thumb (quervain syndrome). These conditions not only involve muscles and tendons, but also often nerve compression. This nerve compression is caused by too much tension in the muscles of the forearm, wrist and hand that pinch the nerve. That means your neck, shoulder, upper back, elbow, forearm, wrist and \/ or hand.<\/li>\n<li>Relax! Moving within the pain threshold decreases pain and accelerates the recovery process. Veelvuldig smartphone gebruik kan ook leiden tot klachten aan de duim, hand en pols.\n\nDit soort klachten kunnen enorme problemen geven in het dagelijks leven en de mogelijkheid om werkzaamheden uit te voeren. Handfysiotherapie kan dan de uitkomst zijn voor jouw klachten.\n\n&nbsp;\n<h2>Anatomie<\/h2>\nDe elleboog is het gewricht tussen je bovenarm(humerus), ellepijp (ulna) en spaakbeen (radius). De voornaamste beweging in je elleboog is buiging en strekking. Je radius en ulna draaien om elkaar heen en zorgen ervoor dat je je onderarm kan draaien. Dit noemen ze supinatie en pronatie.\n\nDe pols is het gewricht tussen je onderarm en hand. Je pols kan buigen, strekken en opzij bewegen (ulnair en radiair deviatie).\n\nJe hand bestaat uit 27 botten; 8 handwortelbeentjes, 5 middenhandsbeentjes en 14 vingerkootjes. Tussen deze botjes zitten gewrichten, wat de hand zeer bewegelijk maakt.\n\nEr zitten een hoop spieren in de elleboog, onderarm en hand, ongeveer 30. Tegenwoordig heten deze klachten KANS, klachten aan arm nek en schouder. De meeste van deze klachten worden veroorzaakt door langdurige repetitieve bewegingen van de elleboog en hand met te weinig rust tussendoor. Als je achter een computer werkt, is dat typen en muizen. De spieren die je vingers strekken en buigen beginnen in je elleboog en onderarm. Vaak krijgen deze spieren niet genoeg tijd en rust om te herstellen van de continue repetitieve bewegingen gedurende de dag. Hierdoor raken ze overbelast en gaan ze pijn doen.\n\nBelangrijk hierin is het \u2018te weinig rust tussendoor\u2019 gedeelte. Zelfs kleine breaks van 10 seconden waarin je je handen en polsen losschud kan al genoeg zijn om klachten te voorkomen.\n\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Zeker met chronische klachten aan de onderarm en elleboog zit er onderliggend een zenuwbeknelling. Omdat we onze handen veel gebruiken, komen klachten hieraan veel voor. Pols en handklachten daarom een grote invloed hebben op je dagelijks leven.\n\nEr kan een onderscheid gemaakt worden tussen acute en chronische hand- en polsklachten.\n\nAcute klachten ontstaan plotseling na bijvoorbeeld een val of bij het sporten. Ook als je te veel oefeningen als push ups doet, kan je pols pijn gaan doen. Vaak gaan deze klachten met gedoseerde beweging en tijd vanzelf weer weg.\n\nLangdurige en chronische hand- en pols klachten beginnen vaak zonder duidelijke oorzaak en worden geleidelijk over tijd erger. Vaak worden deze klachten veroorzaak door te veel repetitieve beweging tijdens werk met te weinig rust en een (te) hoge workload. &nbsp;\n\nVeelvoorkomende (chronische) hand- en polsklachten zijn slapende handen, carpaal tunnel syndroom, peesschede ontsteking in de duim (de quervain syndroom). Bij beide aandoeningen is er niet alleen sprake van problemen in spieren, maar ook vaak een zenuwbeknelling. Deze zenuwbeknelling wordt veroorzaakt doordat er teveel spanning in de spieren van de onderarm, pols en hand zit die de zenuw afknellen.
